Our trip to Prague was very interesting. We drove to Prague from Seefeld, Austria and the change in styles was starkly evident as we crossed the border from Germany into the Czech Republic. Once we began entering the Prague Metro area I found the architecture to be fascinating. The difference between really old architecture, Soviet era brutalist architecture and newer modern style architecture was stark and prevalent. It was also noticeable that the Soviet era buildings were graffitied, I am unsure if that is a matter of protest or an attempt to make them more interesting to look at. It took us a little while to find our hotel and to find parking nearby but once there it was very nice inside and the price was very good. We stayed at the Mamaison Residence Belgicka.

While not super close, it was within a reasonable walking distance to the King Wenceslas Square Area. You probably know the name King Wenceslas from the Christmas Carol and the area near his statue is one of the best places for restaurants and shopping in Prague. We had dinner at a restaurant with an old style seafaring theme. Our waiter was great and a lot of fun. After talking with Amanda about his three corner hat it turns out that both of them learned the same song in German class in school. He very good naturedly treated us to an impromptu rendition to the
delight of the whole restaurant.

Without a doubt the highlight of our trip to Prague was a visit to the Prague Castle and visiting the Cathedral and museums there. The architecture and the history are absolutely amazing. I don’t think any visitor that goes to Prague should miss going there. I could write about it for pages but honestly the best thing to do is look and the pictures and then plan a trip yourself to truly experience it.
